To the coast
The Carmargue is famous for its spectacular scenery and wildlife. Driving around, you will see countless riding stables, wild horses, and public trekking centers. The only tried and tested example is close to home, just off the road to Le Paradou.
A drive straight through the Carmargue National Park is the most direct route to the Mediterranean coast and the long sandy beaches of St Marie de la Mer.
There are countless other coastal destinations stretching all the way via Marseille to Nice in the East. There are too many to mention individually; there is always more to explore, however much time you spend here. One example - Carre le Roux - is a small fishing village with a rocky harbour situated between the Carmargue wetlands and Marseille. A complete contrast from St Marie (mentioned above), here the hills descend directly in to the sea with no beach at all. It is also less than an hour by car from your base in Maussane.
